At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…
Maybe Someday is the first book that I had read by Colleen Hoover so I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect when I began reading this. Oh. My. God. This book is easily one of my favorite stand alone books of all time, which is really saying something. The way this was written and the characters and just everything that went into this book was done beautifully and now I’m making myself want to go read it again.
Now this isn’t in the description and could be considered a bit of a spoiler, and I usually despise spoilers but this one is kind of essential in helping you understand the way I will describe one of the characters a bit. So first Ridge. From the first moment I knew that I would be on team Ridge. Then when you find out he’s deaf (I know spoiler but to me it’s an essential part that you should know) it changed my perspective of him and made me have more respect for him. It hit something deep in me that wanted to just go and take care of him, which isn’t something that I feel is usually in my character, but it happened.
Also that he was a musician kind of wiggled its way into my heart, because I love a good musically inclined character. For Sydney I really felt for her character a lot. I don’t know what else really to say for her but damn, I would’ve given her boyfriend and friend a good smack down after that happened. Warren…oh Warren. I found Warren hilarious and awesome for most of the book but there was this one moment where I just wanted to slap him into next Tuesday.
He pissed me off so much in that point just…AAARRRGGGHHH!!
So the relationship between Ridge and Sydney throughout this book was so frustratingly beautiful and I really am trying so hard not to go into more detail so you can experience it for yourself so I’m just going to stop here.
**Warning Spoiler Ahead**
But there is one thing that I really wish she would have had Ridge specify is that he would choose Sydney over Maggie if Maggie ever wanted Ridge back. I felt like this really needed to be said because there is a chance that that could happen and it’s the one thing that the book didn’t have that should have been stated.
This is the only book I’ve ever read that has a deaf person as one of the main characters and really just blows my mind by how well Hoover wrote his character, and his perspective of things. This is a high recommend from me and I suggest you got and read it as soon as possible.
